“Raising our voices
in support of women everywhere”
We interrupt our regular weekend inspiration to spotlight a humanitarian issue happening right now in our rug world.
Following the death of Mahsa Amini, a Kurdish young lady from the province of Balouchestan, women in Iran have spoken up against the government. They continue to fight the compulsory police and their laws regarding “dress rules.” Women are burning their hijabs and cutting their hair while protesting for basic human rights across the globe. These women are our weavers, vendors and friends.
"The tragic death of Mahsa Amini connects us all at a time when it has never been more important to ban together and push back against all forms of oppression.”
- Laurie Adams
Why is this important?:
The regions of Kurdistan & Balouchestan are part of the rug cradle & are two of the few areas still weaving traditional patterns and preserving their craft. Communication has been cut off & the humanitarian crisis is real.
"Human rights is a universal standard. It is a component of every religion and every civilization”-Shirin Ebadi
