Spring Cleaning

Tips & Tricks

First things first! Vacuum or sweep dirt, debris and dust from your rug on BOTH front and back. Always vacuum in the direction of the fibers and be sure to raise the beater bar to prevent any damage.

Be mindful of the material of your rug. Is it will, silk, jute or cotton?
If dealing with wool, use cool water with mild detergent (woolite or dish detergent) and a sponge going in the direction of the nap should do the trick! Jute and seagrass’ trick would be to dry the liquid as quickly as possible as to not leave a water mark. When cleaning always blot NEVER rub. Rubbing actually soaks the stain into your rug. Use white towels, napkins or paper towels. Colored linens can stain and transfer color onto your rug.

Pro tip: Rotate your rugs for allover even wear and sun exposure.

Usual Suspects & How to Treat Them:

Odor: Sprinkle talcum powder on the rug and let it sit overnight. Vacumm the powder up the next day.

Wine: Salt, baking soda, vinegar, club soda & white wine (neutralizes the pigment of red wine!)

Pet Urine: Blot as much liquid up as possible Mix 1/2 water & 1/2 white vinegar. Rinse to flush out as much urine then sprinle with baking soda and vacuum.

Ink: Unscented hairspray to soak the stained area, once dry use a small amount of water and white vinegar. Blot dry.

Blood: Blot with hydrogen peroxide ( test this before going all in!)

A few takeaways!

  • Clear and natural are always best

  • Always spot test before going all in

  • Avoid chemical cleaners as they may react with your carpets dyes
