Zeki Muren
December 6th 1931-September 24th 1996
Turkish singer, composer, songwriter, actor and poet.

Dama means checked in Turkish which is the main pattern featured in the Damali Rug Collection created by Zeki Muren. The famous Turkish artist studied decorative arts at Instabul’s Fine Arts Academy from 1950-1953. He designed a group of mid-century modern decorative patterns in “Neo-baroque” style, which were woven as carpets. Their main characteristics are bright colors, bold geometric patterns, decorative prints with an opulent edgy Art Deco influence.

These are direct counterpoints to “classical” medallion Persian style carpets. Setting the tone for a new generation.
