Admiring Ukraine bravery & their craft

Embroidery is an ancient and symbolic tradition in Ukraine. Once an everyday art in common peoples lives, embroidery has become more of a craft industry since the 19th century. The stitches have hidden meaning (some dating from the 5th century with Pagan roots) with floral, geometric or zoomorphic motifs. Flowers, branches and leaves reflect the beauty, purity and prosperity of the family. Geometric patterns relate to symbols of nature as well. Stars (universe), Triangle ( Holy Trinity and Christian values), Cross (Defense against evil spirits) and Rhombus (fertility). Zoomorphic motifs are rarely found on clothing but more on ceremonial pieces. Doves & roosters are found on wedding textiles, usually facing each other with flowers in their beak. Butterflies personify angels & swallows mean good news! Customized embroidery apparel is a timeless piece of art that tells a personal story.
