Pantone color of the year: Very Peri

Purple is the color of royalty, authority and power. It was not used very often in antique Persian rugs but it can represent peace and wisdom along with spirituality. In ancient times purple was a symbol of status and not readily available. This made it very expensive to produce as it primarily came from snails. In the late 1800’s a purple aniline dye was discovered by William Perkin while trying to create synthesized quinine. This was the first synthetic dye, making purple more available.
